You heard right kids. Disco is not dead, it is alive and thriving. Don’t believe me? Head out to any of the grittiest LA hotspots and have a few drinks; my treat. Take position directly under the disco light so that the electro-remix of some indie-collab can overtake you. Squint your eyes ever so gently and you can start to see the faint ghosts of Andy Warhol, Mick Jagger and a teenaged Brook Shields chatting right by the bar. Disco has been revived and Los Angeles is its beating heart.

Derived from the golden-era of Roller Skating, the classic, “Roller Disco Party” from the late 1970’s provided a grandeur mish-mash of glam, glitz and funk on 4 tiny wheels. The Roller Disco was all about showing off your moves and a little bit of skin. After all these years, this old ritual has reinvented itself and invades the fashion scene with a modernized update.

For women, the key component to the Roller Disco outfit is the classic hot-short. Lame, cotton, lycra, denim, spandex… pick your poison. The hotter, the shorter, the better! American Apparel has a huge selection with a great variety of cuts and colors. If that is just a little too much for you, give a gentle nod to this Roller Disco trend with high-waisted shorts or a sexy pair of track shorts and knee-high tube socks. Pair hot-shorts with a fun vintage t-shirts, a sexy cat suit or a sultry bandeau for a more retro look.

As for the gentlemen, as resistant as you may be, the Roller Disco look calls for shorts that may be a little bit more revealing than you are willing to go. Take notice of some of the most current summer collections from Prada and Ralph Lauren: short shorts for men. Hike it up with some track shorts or go retro with some cut-off jeans made into shorts.
