Get ready and grab some tissue because this story is a tear-jerker!
Beverly Burkitt stands at only 3 feet, 8 inches tall while her Chihuahua, Pebbles, is a full 7 inches. During a camping trip in North Wales, Burkitt took Pebbles on a walk. After venturing deep into the woods, she realized she dropped her cell phone and had no idea where she was. Instead of getting even more lost, Burkitt decided to stay put and wait for help (this is an important and accurate survival lesson!).
Pebbles saved Burkitt from hypothermia and possible death by lying across her legs during the cold night to keep her warm. Burkitt and Pebbles were saved the next morning after a ground team and helicopter were sent out to rescue them. Thank you, Pebbles, for your heroic lifesaving efforts.

When thinking about modern America, perhaps you think money… or cowboys… or starlets… or, of course, apple pie. Sadly, these American novelties all come at a steep price: our environment. In the name of Earth Day, Everywun is excited to show you America through the lens of socially conscious artist, Chris Jordan!
With long-zoom and large-format artwork, Jordan gives us a striking look into American consumption with his latest series of photographs, “Running the Numbers”. Using American statistics on consumption, Jordan offers a raw and unrefined look at shocking stats, like the 2 million plastic bottles we use every 5 minutes by actually showing us those two millions bottles.
“As you walk up close,” says Chris Jordan, “you can see that the collective is only made up of lots and lots of individuals. There is no bad consumer over there somewhere who needs to be educated. There is no public out there who needs to change. It’s each one of us.”
Thanks, Chris, for giving us a way to see our consumption habits and get inspired to do something about them. You’re an Everywun hero! Check out chrisjordan.com for exhibitions near you!

The Girl Effect
Educated girls grow into educated women, who – as research shows – have healthier babies and are more likely to educate their children. With limited options, up to half of all young women in developing countries become mothers before the age of 18. What makes it worse is that pregnancy is the leading cause of death among girls ages 15-19 worldwide. The Girl Effect is a non-profit organization that believes in empowering adolescent girls through formal education because they are uniquely capable of raising the standard of living in the developing world. when women earn income, they reinvest 90% of it into their families, whereas men only invest 30-40%.
Give a girl an education and she can transform herself, her future, her community, and the world! Be sure to check out their website and get involved with The Girl Effect! Help a young women change the world as we know it!

Guys often wonder why women need so many handbags. Well, here is a simple answer for you boys: a great bag can make an outfit on its own! Plus… you won’t have to hold all of our stuff for us when we don’t have one!
Kim White created a collection of handbags that are made from – get this guys – recycled vintage automotive fabrics.
Since they were meant for cars, the fabrics are durable, one-of-a-kind textiles that are even imprinted with the make and model of the car it was intended for. Always wanted that 1978 Ford Mustang? Well now you can have it in purse-form!
Function and fantastic! What more could a girls ask for?

Spiderman Spreads the Love

Months ago, a Thai firefighter dressed up as Spiderman to rescue an 11 year-old autistic boy who – on his first day of school – climbed onto a third floor balcony and dangled his legs over the side. The boy refused to let anyone help him and no one wanted to shout at him in fear that he’d jump.
Firefighter, Somchai Yoosabia overheard a conversation between the boy’s mother and his teacher, about how much he loved comics and superheroes. Somchai rushed back to the firestation and slipped into a fireman costume in hopes of saving the boy. After climbing up the ladder, Somchai told the boy that he was Spiderman and was here to save him. As you can see from the picture, Spiderman saved the day.
When asked why he had a Spiderman costume in the first place, Somchai explained that he kept a few costumes to liven up fire drills at schools. Although Somchai isn’t a bio diesel CEO , he is definitely a hero in my book!

Are you tired of having your lunch stolen from your coworkers, roommates, or perhaps your local bully? I know I am! Thus we may both want to give the Anti-Theft Lunch Bag a try.
These clever little sandwich bags are embellished with a green splotches that makes your food look moldy. This is guaranteed to turn most human beings – who aren’t little brothers – away from your ham and cheese! And the mold isn’t the only thing that’s green about these bags. They’re also food-safe, reusable, and recyclable!
Boxes come with 25 bags and cost a whopping $10. But don’t feel so bad about shelling out your dough, 5% of the purchase will be donated to Freedom from Hunger.

Some wouldn’t know it – because of the large fashion lines that still don’t get it, but for many years there have been eco trendsetters in the fashion industry. These designers understand that it is imperative to be fashion-forward while making less impact on earth.
The Good Society is one of my favorite socially and ecologically sustainable fashion labels. Their denim isn’t just easy on the wallet, it’s also made from 100% organic textiles that are fairly traded. The Good Society denim is fit to please!
Being chic doesn’t mean the world has to go bleak! And that’s a good thing to know because I just can’t get enough of these jeans. Like a glove!
